Pause for thought
The Queen Mother was a Grand Mother in very many senses. Her value as a Grandparent was immense. Strength, dignity and laughter were described as the Queen Mother's attributes at her funeral service.
Being on show to the public can be stressful or enjoyable.
Family Connections
The experience of early family gatherings is sometimes mirrored in adult life; especially within a person's social group.

Life in perspective

Sometimes people forget to recognize the value of grandparents or close family and friends in their everyday lives. When young people move away or grandparents die, it is often during a time of great change in their lives. The grief of parting is sometimes overlooked and under estimated.
Grandparents may have been able to spend time with young people, doing things the parents were too busy to do, noticing things the parents overlooked or genuinely enjoying the contact.
The loss can be helped by realising that, although life can never be the same as before, remembering the fun times and happy memories may be a comfort.

A final comment made during the March Past at the Cenotaph, London 11.11.2001 "Tis a sad truth that Mankind is more skilled in the art of war, than in the art of peace".
